Target Pyro 90 16g darts review

Video link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DuU5VIiy6U

Here is a review of the Target Pyro soft tip darts. The darts are the signature darts for the Japanese player Mitsumasa Hoshino a.k.a Pyro.

Click here for more info: Pyro

The darts are 90% tungsten and incorporate Pixel and Nano grip technology with Gold Ti Nitride highlights. They retail for around £70 so not a cheap dart but they seem to be in line with some of the top end darts in the Asian market where I suspect these are aimed for.

CONTENTS AND PACKAGING:

The darts come in some very nice packaging which is neatly designed and stylish. There is a slide out tray within the box which contains the darts fitted with Target Pixel grip points in a point protector and some Pro Grip Vision shafts with Pyro vision flights:

The barrels have quite an intricate grip design on the rear half and they are very nicely machined. The Pixel grip is highlighted with gold ti which is more cosmetically pleasing than functional I think as you cant really feel the affect of it on your skin but you can feel the pixels but it may offer the pixels a little bit of extra wear protection. The rear half is made up of bands of Nano grip which have a kind of knife edge style rings which protrude slightly above the Nano grip bands. So I feel those rings more than I do the Nano grip, its a nice grip though and overall I would say its a high medium level.

DIMENSIONS:

Length:

Barrels are quite short.

Width:

They are thickest around the Pixel grip section.

Detailed dimensions:

The barrels are drilled out quite far at the front and rear, so its almost hollow, just about 5mm or so of solid tungsten Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

WEIGHT:

Two barrels matched exactly and the third was just two hundredths of a gram heavier, so very good:

Weight of the full set up as supplied:

BALANCE:

With the Pixel soft tip point attached the balance was just slightly front of centre:

With the supplied set up the balance move to the rear:

MY GRIP WITH THESE DARTS:

I was mostly gripping around the Pixel grip section. Barrels are quite short so it was not that far from my normal front grip.

CONCLUSION:

These are a very nicely made set of darts that look great with it. There is some very fine machining on the barrels and neat little touches with the Gold Ti Nitride highlights and the Pyro graphic on the barrel. Of course the darts are not so cheap but it seems some effort has gone into making them a very stylish and quality set of darts to rival the darts we see from the top Asian manufacturers.

But a dart is a dart is a dart lol so how do they perform?

Well like we have said many times you can throw a bog standard cheap dart just as well as a more expensive set but if you want to treat yourself to something fancy that is not too overboard in cost then its a great dart. I feel it is one for rear grippers though. The balance is just right holding on the rear and the grip of the rear section feels really good.

I was mostly throwing from the Pixel section or just slightly in front which was fine really but when I tried from the rear it just felt like that was the right place to be throwing it from. After doing the video review I played with them more from the rear and they just got better and easier to throw from there.

It helps me in the fact its only a short barrel which makes it easier for me to adjust with the rear grip so I think if your a natural rear gripper you should really find these a joy to throw.

I never really noticed anything iffy with the flight of the dart even with my front grip and its possible it will suit a grip that sits on the Pixel section too but you would need to try them to be sure.

One thing I did notice is that they seemed to fly like bullets, was very zippy indeed.

Quality is very good and overall its a neat and stylish package. Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

SUMMARY RATINGS:

Looks: 9 (very stylish)
Grip: 7 (for the rear. on a 1 to 10 Scale, 10 been severe grip)
Weight match: 9 (very close)
Quality: 9 (great quality)
Value: 7 (not overly expensive but not so cheap either, in line with a lot of Asian brands so gauging on that)
Suitability for me: 6.5 (I got better throwing from the rear with them after some practice)

Best Feature: Nice quality Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

Excellent review. Pics are stunning. So good that I might notice things that can't be noticed in person. But it looks like the points and stems overlap the barrel some? Is that noticeable to you?

These are also amazingly drilled out front and rear which could make it appealing to more players as the weight could be seriously adjusted with tungsten putty. I could see adding up to 3 grams with them being drilled out so much. So the barrels could vary from 16 to approx 19 grams. That's a REALLY cool feature imo.

Again, your pics are amazing. Every time I talk to companies I tell them about your reviews and that they should hire you for pics. I imagine sales would increase greatly. I don't see the overlap on the stems with the naked eye and it feels smooth but the points kind of have a slight lip but it probably looks bigger in the pics Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

And a great review!

I've had a few hours with them as well as the Pyro 80, which feels almost identical in hand, and the Power95 Asia Soft Tip Gen1. The 80, to me, however, has a slightly more secure grip. It feels almost as if it 'locks' onto your finger pads without it being the least bit sticky, and that was absolutely great because I was about to splurge for the 90!

There's a much longer story on my side, but I won't bother you with it. It IS a fantastically zippy, responsive and accurate dart is all I can say. Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.
