Just wondering. Has anyone noticed a difference in dart flight from throwing with the flight looking like an "X" vs "+" when you originally release it? Wasn't sure if there was any significant aerodynamics difference.
Flight Alignment in Gripping

I think there was something by the Unicorn Boffin about this and if I remember rightly he said it made very little difference if any, I remember someone saying once that they thought their darts flew better with an "X" rather than a "+" but I cant say I notice any difference myself, but I still tend to shape them out into as close a "+" shape as possible, might be just a psychological thing though?

Luckily i don't have that problem with my Cosmos especially as there's only 3 finsGuests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images. But if i was using normal flights i would be straightening them to a "+" shape before every throw. I hate seeing team-mates throwing with their flights almost squashed into 2 fins.
Sorry, it wasn't meant to be about the shape.
I was meant to be about the orientation -- straight up an down or diagonal at release. I was assuming perfect "+" of 90 degrees of the flight.
When I'm sighting my throw, for whatever reason, I like the dart to come up into my line of sight with the flights in an X.
It's purely a vision thing for me. (03-10-2015, 06:02 PM)brianmontgomery Wrote: Sorry, it wasn't meant to be about the shape. Don't worry about it, it wont make any difference to your dart as it will likely change as soon as you throw it Guests cannot see images in the messages. reason I was asking was it seems two will group and the other does not and the two grouped seemed to share a landing orientation (may not have actually started out with the same orientation as the other!)
I play a lot of golf, so am very aware of not wanting to be become to aware of too many variables!
Also used to be into archery. Kept the arrows numbered so we could see who was misbehaving!
I spin my darts, so my starting orientation has nothing to do with the way they sit in the board. Plus the darts are hitting eachother and going between eachother and all sorts of stuff, so even if you dont spin I doubt it matters.
If it really matters, Phils barrels must be machined perfectly. The quatrro grip is so he holds the dart the same everytime right? So the flight would be the same. I doubt it matters. If somebody throws and the darts dont spin AT ALL, I would be very impressed.
Do you have a newer iPhone or Android, I think they all have slo-mo video that would probably figure it out. Maybe Im wrong, but I bet yours spin at least a few revolutions by the time they reach the board.
As long as my flights are opened properly I don't think about it. As long as my grip is the same.
I do play against a bloke who will reset his grip/aim if his darts don't form the perfect "+". Even seen him swap a flight if it's been clipped and there's a minuscule dent in it. Doesn't seem to matter as he hasn't beaten me in months! |
