History of Dartsnutz.net
So our forum is turning 2 next month. You have anything to share about Dartsnutz, 2 years ago? Let's do some flashback.

Travel with me in the past. I'll go first.

This is how the Dartsnutz Admins "forced" me to join the forum.

Broken link(s) removed

I met Darren at eBay (being one of his frequent dart buyers) and asked him if he knows where I can find a Unicorn Freddie Dean darts. That's when he asked me to join Dartsnutz.com that perhaps some members have it.

Until now, I couldn't find those darts.

Memories.

Any memorable or favorite posting that you find here at Dartsnutz?

Share as we welcome it's Second Year.

Hell fire, that change over had me stumped - I though the forum (dartsnutz.com) was a goner - however with a lot of hard work from several members (a couple no longer around unfortunately Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images. ) the new place we have here has taken off and become much bigger than I ever imagined.

We used a phrase back then 'Mighty oaks from little acorns grow' - and while dartsnutz.com was a pretty big and impressive acorn - dartsnutz.net has started to grow into the mighty oak we hoped for - with brilliant members and great sponsors here's hoping we go from strength to strength!

Long live the Nutz!!! Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

PS: That's a little story of how the acorn became the Darts Nutz logo Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

I'll see if I can dig out the banner for old times sake Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

Please do. Interested on the team behind the creation of Dartsnutz.net and of course - the drama.

How many members did we have then?

I think I was around the 40th (36th if memory serves correct) member to join the old site - while I love the current forum there was something pretty special about the old place when there was so few members but we were all active, used to spend Premier League nights in the chat room - and I can tell you we had some fun there, I often has my Mrs staring at me thinking I was a nut job laughing my head off with tears in me eyes - proper PMSL! That was then and this is now, I was only a member of one other forum before here - wont mention names but while that forum has gone I think I learned a lot being a member there - particularly how some Mods treated new members with disdain, how dare a n00bie ask a question that had previously been asked like 6 months ago!

Pathetic in my opinion and uncalled for - we love new members here and if they want to ask something that has been discussed a thousand times before who are we to jump on their backs, deleting posts and threaten bans - some folks need to chill out and accept not everyone is as wonderful or computer literate as themselves.

As I say, we wanted to do something different here, we all love darts and darts things thats why we join the forum, we dont have Mods that think they are the internet police, we have Mods that are passionate and respectful - above all else we try to be as friendly as we can as we want new members to stick around for the long term and feel welcome, not scare them off by being heavy handed and censoring every other word they type.

Dartsnutz is here for people to enjoy, like-minded individuals should be able to have a civilized conversation without worrying that they may mention a brand or manufacturer that is deemed 'inappropriate', of course there are rules but by letting members act like grown ups you tend to get a grown up mentality on the forum as a whole - that, I feel, is the real success behind Dartsnutz.

Ps. Cant find the acorn/oak banner just now, will have another look tomorrow Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

Who conceived the name "DartsNutz" and why the acorn among all nuts?
Reply
I think I was the first person to sign up on the original .com forum after it was set up by Andy, Darren and Larry.

The original forum was set up to discuss darts history and collecting and swapping of vintage darts, but this soon snowballed into the genesis of the forum you see today discussing all aspects of darts, be it vintage, soft tip, steel tip, PDC, BDO, etc,.

Andy, Darren and Larry - they set up the original forum and were darts nuts, obviously changing the last S to a Z made it sound more snazzy lol - and Greg already answered the bit about the acorn in the first of his posts in this thread

This could develop into a rather informative thread.

Come on all you old timers... tell us the story. Spill the Beans, wax some historical Lyrical.

How long was the Old Forum up and running for... I know who Darren and Larry are, who's Andy... What's the story between Larry & Darren proper best friends, but Miles apart... that's worth a tale in it's self, if it ain't prying too much into personal stuff.

Why was the old Forum closed down, and this one created... what where the reasons the Old Forum was created... Bloody Hell, so many Questions... Intriguing, yes?

I thought we turned 2 on the 25th of this month?

That's when we began the switchover to this site I believe Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

Andy Bailey is a member who came to DC forum while myself and Larry were still members there. He became a good friend as I had re-kindled his interest in old wooden darts which he said his granddad used to play with. Myself and Larry had already became good friends on DC along with Mike (mc1958) dannyd180 and quite a few others who joined in the early days but no longer are around. Also mac aka USMC80 came along but he was still fairly new on DC too I believe.

It was Andy who made the original forum completely of his own doing. He had run a forum before and he thought it would be good to start one for collecting and vintage darts etc. That then became a general darts forum but I cant quite remember who came up with the Darts Nutz name, it may have been Andy.

But it was quite small for the first 6 months or so, we probably had less than 500 members but then it quickly started to grow and eventually it was struggling to support the 1500 members we had and was often getting issues with slow down etc. I think its because we were on a free forum hosting site and it was struggling to cope with the demand and also they were restricting some of the things we were trying to implement.

So Andy had left the forum in the hands of me Larry and Mac and we promoted Greg to Admin when Andy left then made the decision to look elsewhere to host the forum.

The big problem was that the site domain name was registered with the free host and we could not keep the .com so had to change it to .net and also we could not transport all the info (threads etc) from the free host so had to start from scratch at the present site. That's basically the gist of why we became DartsNutz.net. I think for the first few months we had lost a lot of the momentum that we had built up with the .com site but it soon improved again and now we nearly have 4000 members so I think it was the right decision to move to the new host with the new name.

As Greg says above we have come a very long way since those early days and at one point I was not even sure I was going to bother with it, had a little argument with Andy over something very daft and silly and pretty much felt like giving up but soldiered on and here we are today Guests cannot see images in the messages.
