Hey DN! Recently I've encountered a problem with the consistency of my release. I used to release the dart naturally and the same everytime, but now it tends to slip out of my hand, making the dart go above my target. On thr next throw, i would be mindful of that, but end up gripping it too hard and releasing late!
Has anyone encountered this problem? Are there any drills i can do to go back to finding the smooth release?

Not sure if this would help as there might be other causes for the inconsistent/slippy release - If there was no change in your technique (besides over-compensating when it slips), try scrubbing your darts with dishwashing liquid and water, and also wash your hands with soap and water before play. My dart has a pyramid grip (more aggressive than your Viscounts), and when it gets fouled up with dead skin, oil and dirt, it starts to slip.

maybe try bouncing a tennis ball off a wall and playing catch with it. it's fine to catch it 'off the hop'.. do that mindlessly for a good while..
The other thing is always to focus on what you are shooting at, not how you are shooting it..

If the dart is slippery, you could try having a little water in a glass, dip a finger in and rub on all the fingers or the barrel. This makes the grip firmer, alot of peiple lick their fingers too :s Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

I love davidsproull's tennis ball suggestion.
Problem may also be attributed to weather? Have you tried throwing heavier darts?

Ancient Darter - that's a good point! I haven't washed my darts since i've gotten them actually. Time for a good scrub.
david - That's a good idea! I usually just fling the darts at the board a few times without thought, but the effects don't seem to last long. Will try out the tennis ball!
heppy147 - never heard of that! will try!
majeek - i haven't, actually, why does it matter?

LCD, try using an old CLEAN toothbrush to do the job. Makes it much easier! Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

BTW, went down to HALO just now as I was picking up a set of darts to try and it was just nearby. Didn't see anyone that looks like you.

When the darts start to slip and I've cleaned them it's usually time for me to get a new set.

dry skin and hands, cold weather causing cold hands. humid air. . .etc. - influences grip in a way.

Sometimes I use a TINY bit of dry rosin, really just a crumb. Not enough to feel sticky, but enough to keep my fingers from feeling slippery. Wash the darts in soap and water, and denatured alcohol to remove old rosin.

Target Nathan Aspinall 23g/SlikStiks. Still trying to teach an old dog new tricks.

My father Merlin, once told me that "You should end up pointing to what you were aiming at when you've released the Dart."
