Cuesoul

Lets try to sort some things out.
I am a little confused, about some things regarding my darts. Let's start with the facts. My stance is excactly like Adrian's, my throw (speed, draw back etc) is something between Adrian's and Gary's. Oh and I am a tall guy (1,96 meters) if that helps. I am a rythm player right now if I may say. Also I roll the dart a little in my fingers like gary does. I grip the dart with 2 fingers in the back and 1 in the front (not at the point). Now listen to this. The past months I was more slow, a little faster than Taylor, and I played with 26 gram gordon sumway darts (you know the fat grippers), but for several reasons I dropped this style. I felt that I was getting tired faster, my grouping was lame as was my sighting and I could not repeat the same drawback. So I tried the style that I described above. The first darts that I used with the new style were the phase 2 purists. The results were average but I think I could do better, at first they felt light, maybe because I was using heavier darts or becuase they are too long? The results were mediocre but at least I was enjoying the game and felt comfortable (not pushing myself, everything came natural). Then I used my carrera c3 25grams after a long time, they felt very nice had some 180s with them BUT most of the time I undershoot my target (especially high ones), and thats a fact if you look at my dartboard the segment under the T20 is in far worse condition than the above segment. Why does this happen, are they too heavy for my current style? I did a comparison with my purists and I realised that with my new style the carreras demanded more effort (and sometimes frustration) in order to get them to land to the higher segments of the board. It feels like something drags them down. I use the same setup with both sets of darts. So now with my purists I feel more relaxed and find it way easier to get them to land where I want (no undershooting) but still something is off I dont know. Sometimes I undershoot consecutively so do I need even lighter darts? Maybe I find them too long. Something tells me to try 23 gram darts. I tried the past days 2 different sets of 22 grams and both felt too light so we rule these out. Now lets see some other facts, all the rythm players I can think of use 23 grams or lighter darts, which are straight barrels, right guys? Also is it me or the very tapered darts (the ones with more material at the back) are more suited for loopy throws and not flat ones (the back end drags them down more?). Is there any scientific explanation? So what should I do now? Experiment with 23 grams change my setup? Should I rule out tappered barrels? I believe that I will recieve a lot of answers about this from you fellow nutz, and thats excactly why I posted this thread so maybe I/we can get this straight.

Hi Matey,

What length shaft and shape of Flight are you using so we can get the full picture.....do you lean in a lot or are you more upright?
Are you consciously reviewing you action each time you throw with the new darts and focusing perhaps too much i.e your too tense and your follow through has become stilted a bit?

Cheers

My father Merlin, once told me that "You should end up pointing to what you were aiming at when you've released the Dart."

I am using short shafts with both darts. With the purists short unicorn shafts with plus standard flights. And with the carreras short dimplex shafts (they are slightly shorter than the unicorn ones with standard target flights. I lean as much as adrian lewis. No Dorian cant say really that I focus too much, thats why I opted for this style, cause it allows me to be relaxed and do my thing, it feels natural especially with the purists. Sometimes this happens with the carreras, I try too much to get them to land higher and I have the opposite result. One other thing that crossed my mind is that my throw is not exaclty flat, it has a nice little arch (but not loopy), so I should try a little shorter dart and put some medium stems (which I think wil suit my trajectory more) on something like andersons maybe I dont know.
Kev, I tried it some times the results were good a few times, but I havent mastered it yet, still though undershooting persists with the carreras. You mean something like barney or gary does, right?

I mean when you are ready to throw, just lift your elbow (hole arm )
up just about 1cm. Keep your aim the same, every Thing the same.
Just lift your elbow. Would'nt it be great to have a throw like Barney. All the best.

Yeah thats what people tell me at the pub, they tell me to play like barney. But I cant mimic him excactly. So I am gonna try what you said. Any sugestion on the darts? Will 23 grams be even more comfortable to me? Should I mimic the choice of pros regarding my gear?

Steve I throw 23-24g Darts. But I beleave in flight School.I Change my routines but always throw the same way.
When you are happy with were you grip your Darts, then its only you Standing at the ochy throwing.
George can and will be better to help you.Try a few of the weekly challengers on here, there are many to try.
Work on groopings, try to go around the board putting 3 Darts in the fat part of every number, enjoy the game, feel good and never blame the Darts.
But you can be cool like Barney.

Yeah I attend flightschool too. The A1 always helps me to find a rhythm. I will do all that, but I am gonna experiment a little just to know how 23 grams feel like and hopefully I will progress well. Keep it coming people I want to hear more opinions.

I throw c5 23 gram and like them very much tried a lot of different weights and it just feels right.sometimes I'm under shooting or struggling to hit top doubles , I found elbow slightly up makes it effortless, still struggle overshooting double2s. Wish ya the best of luck.

If using the same or similar size flights with lighter darts, the lighter darts will feel like they need more force. The higher mass of the heavier dart helps pull the flight through the air. Lighter darts can't counter that as easily. Try slightly smaller flights.
