Winmau Dean Winstanley 24g darts review

Video link = https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8H5NlIzfmM

I bought these just before Christmas from Madhouse darts using the forum members discount code, cost me £25.20.

Winstanley Black 24g

There is also a natural tungsten version. I believe there is only 24g available at present, no idea it they will make other weights.

The darts are 90% tungsten with the very nice Black Onyx coating.

CONTENTS AND PACKAGING:

The darts come in the usual standard style plastic tray with the slide off lid. On the inside of the back inlay card is a checkout chart. The darts are stored in a plastic Winmau case with point protector and fitted with medium nylon stems with spring clips and standard Rhino 100 Winstanley signature flights.

The darts have a basic ring style grip and a nice taper to the nose of the barrel. Overall the grip is a medium level of grip but the black coating dose seem to enhance the grip a tad.

with the supplied set up balanced moved a little to the rear:

MY GRIP WITH THESE:

I was gripping at the front and I think when I came to throw the darts I moved even closer to the front, it just felt nice and comfy there for me Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

Darts landed a little flatter than my normal:

CONCLUSION:

A very nice dart, very much in the style of the old John Part darts. I have a few black coated darts now, something about them I like lol These are a nice dart to throw though, they feel comfortable to hold and throw well, I hit a 140 with my first throw but the other throws were a little off target but still hit a few T20's but I felt that they threw fine even with my front grip on the taper. The only thing I did notice was sometimes I seemed to get a lot of spin after release, might just be me or that I was gripping where the barrel was tapering?

I think in my fingers they felt better balanced at the middle but strangely I could not throw them so well there, sometimes I can get away with throwing them around the middle but was better with these at the front. Never tried throwing them from the rear though.

I don't think I would say the darts are specifically for a front gripper though, will probably suit any style really.

The coating is nice and it does enhance the overall feel of the dart but how long it will last remains to be seen.

I would not say the darts flew particularly flat for me but kind of inbetween but apart from the odd bit of spinning they were nice and steady in flight.

Overall a nice dart with a nice feel that throws well Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

SUMMARY RATINGS:

Looks: 8 (plain style but nice)
Grip: 7 (on a 1 to 10 Scale, 10 been severe grip)
Weight match: 8 (close)
Quality: 8 (seems fine, coating is nice)
Value: 8.5 (good value)
Suitability for me: 8 (think they would be even better if 2 mm shorter, but flew well the more I played with them)

Cheers!

I find it a little strange they don't have more weights in these though, may be they will bring some more out?

they could at least least bring out say 22g and 26g in the silver. just keep his weight in the black. then again they brought the Nicholson darts out in 3 or 4 weights for both types.

fingers crossed eh.

I only think their boards are made in Kenya, darts in house in Wales I think.
