Storm Points 'Debate'.
Question
Love them or hate them, or like me, find them a nonplus.

No doubt they make your 50p a set flights last much longer, no doubt they make your dart skim past other darts but if they are so innovative and give such an advantage why did I only see.... erm zero players using them in the PDC World Championships (unless I missed one?) ?

I am being a bit sarcastic as I have, in the past been 'questioned' for stating I don't really see any more benefit other than saving flights - surely if they are so magnificent and such a God send why aren't all the Pro's, OK, Target sponsored Pro's using them?

I do get the idea, save flights, more aerodynamic, etc but I found (yes I have used them) they take away the little 'lip' that so many of us use as a finger/nail placement when throwing and also take away a bit of balance when throwing.

Each to their own mind, and I am just wondering basically why more Pro's dont use them if they are so good? Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

To be honest I saw quite a few players use them this year at the WC. Maybe 5? All qualifiers though.

I think it comes down to them being a Target product. Certainly there won't be any non Target sponsored players using them. Then look at the actual Target sponsored players... Taylor, Lewis, Chizzy, Bunting. All top players that prob don't want to change a thing as far as their setup.

I've also seen a few sets being used in the BDO so far this year.

I JUST turned on the BDO and Sedlacek was using them and in the next match Fitton is using them.

I don't use them as my middle finger rests on the end of the barrel/start of the point.
Fave players- Wade/Barney
Board used-Blade4
Darts used-Unicorn Aidy Lewis

Taylor did use them for a bit when his form was inconsistent. He was changing tons of things then.

I think it just comes down to personal preference. I do use the 30mm black smooth storms... And I have to say, I wish they made 36mm. On soft sisal boards, the points bury nearly to the barrel. It is worth the trade off in my eyes though. I have no problem moving to open up a target.

That, the price, and the risk of breakage are the only flaws I find with them.

I agree, makes sense for streamline (less flight damage/ deflections) - just though more Pro's would use them, but as said, they are a Target product and so limited as to who could/would use them - although I see none Target Pro's using Target Pro Grip stems etc.

I'm in your camp Rebel i dont get the big deal if there so great why dont more pro's use them and why haven't other companies copied this if there so good, when i first joined i wondered if some people were Target reps the way they seemed to push them lol, i'm fine with my 50 cent points and replacing my 20 cent flights, to each there own use what you like

If you scuff points frequently like MVG and Lewis, would you think these storms will last?

It's almost the same debate about no bounce darts. People in the USA swear by them. I still see dozens of players using them to this very day. Yet no pro's use them.

Storm point debate is extremely weird though. If you look from forum to forum there's many people that swear by them, including myself. I think they're one of the greatest innovations in darts in a long time. But there's always a small handful that can't stand them. And just like no bounce darts, ya won't see many pro's using Storms. Odd

If so, why don't Target make storms as standard issues in all their darts that they manufacture - if it's the better option than regular ones? It is a good way to promote the product in fact.

And include them (i.e. storm point breakage) in their lifetime guarantee conditions.

It will be interesting if Unicorn or Target ever create their own version of a Clic/Fit Flight/L Style flight.

Curious to see if the pros will actually use them or stick with their old folding flights even though they're highly popular in amateur darts/Japanese soft tip.

Its funny but I used to use the Trident Cones quite a lot and when the Storm points came out I thought that's a good idea so I wont need to bother with the cones anymore, but I since then I have used neither unless the darts have come with the storms pre-fitted. I think I have also been put off a little by seeing people get breakages with them but in the end its more likely I am just too lazy to bother changing the points which I will need to buy a re-pointer to do any way.

May be some point in the coming months I will get chance to give them a proper test and see if they do actually benefit.

My darts stick in the board just fine, flights are cheap and easily replaced, and I've never broken a point. And I don't intend to break a point, therefore I have no need for Storm points. Like most thing darts, it's personal preference.
Darts is like sex. When it's good, it's great. When it's bad, it's still pretty good.
