Just have someone do it with a point puller/press. I've broken too many points trying to do home methods. You can never accurately gauge how tight a point is seated...some you can possibly get away with doing yourself but I find the majority are too tight/just snap at the barrel.

I agree it can be done, and I have done it five or six times but I eventually broke down and bought a point changing tool. What a difference that made, much less stress and faster and easier. There are some threads on here for doing it yourself though.

It's risky especially if you are dealing with your most precious darts. A puller that is worth $60 is a reasonable practical worthy investment. There are instructions in You Tube about replacing points using alternative methods but I am not endorsing it here in the forum as a thing for you or anyone else to try.

I have a rivet gun. It would not work. Even with the proper fitting selected it would not grab the point. Plus, it would not install a point anyway. So, I broke a point off right at the barrel using hand tools and a vise, even though I was careful as could be. I bought a Designa re-pointer. Re-pointing is easy and quick. It only takes about 5 minutes a set. My advice, save yourself the aggravation and possibly a month of the vinegar point removal procedure and get a proper tool.

ya, taking em out is fairly easy, but sometimes putting the new ones back in can be quite frustrating,

I would deep six the idea of gripper points. Unless you don't mind buying new boards frequently or destroying a bars board.

i see... i guess ill have to invest in a puller. but then again, if the gripped points destroy boards fairly easy then i might not buy them at all... thanks everyone for the answers so far, good advice from everyone.

Definitely buy the Designer puller it great value, if you want grippy points that do not destroy boards go for the smooth gold storms.

From everything I've read here, if I was having issues with board grip I would definitely try scuffing my existing points or going with some smooth gold storm points.
I got some spare points with some pretty knarly barbs to em for board grip and although I haven't had to install them in any darts yet, I immediately sanded them smooth.
