The physical height of the top pros....
In most sports, height plays a large part. I'm in Seattle and our Seattle Seahawks football (not-the-outside-the-US-"football") has a "shorter quarterback" that's under 6 feet tall...and the press makes a big deal about it. With darts it really doesn't seem to matter...you have players like Phil Taylor that are 5'9-10" and he's won more championships than anyone.

The reason I made this thread was a surprise during the Barney game against Lewis. One of the commentators mentioned Lewis was 6'3"

I know Barney is also quite tall but no idea he was that Lewis was that tall.....since we (the US people) don't often get to see exhibitions, we never get to see the pros in real life.

Again, this is purely for fun....but I am curious of the top 20.
If you've met, stood next to, or just know for a fact how tall one of the players are, post it.

1 Michael van Gerwen
2 Phil Taylor 5'6"-7" (56-57")
3 Adrian Lewis 6'3" (75")
4 Gary Anderson
5 Peter Wright
6 James Wade
7 Simon Whitlock 6'4" (76")
8 Robert Thornton
9 Dave Chisnall
10 Mervyn King
11 Brendan Dolan
12 Ian White
13 Andy Hamilton
14 Terry Jenkins
15 Wes Newton
16 Raymond van Barneveld 6'3"+? (75"+)
17 Kim Huybrechts
18 Justin Pipe
19 Jamie Caven
20 Vincent van der Voort 6'6" (78")

Anyone else meet some pros/stand next to them...It would be interesting to see the average height for a 20 pro.

No idea that VvDV was such a beast. That will be interesting to see him and Taylor standing near each other in a few days.

I thought Taylor was 5ft 8"?

I know Lewis is big as he seems taller than most in pics and I think Pipe is short but I think Darren Webster is even shorter. Alan Evans was a great player from the past and he was about 5ft 2" he was really good on the bullseyes too Guests cannot see images in the messages. I think the only advantage to been tall say 6ft 2" is your a bit more in the same level as the T20 but in the end no matter what your height is your throw will adapt to the targets on the board.

I am 5ft 10 Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

Well I'm 5'9" and weigh in at 14.5 stone so I think your OK Darren Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

As for the Pro's - only time I ever thought about size was when I bought Steve Beatons Grand Slam shirt - I received it (complete with a couple of squirts of his after shave!) and when I held it against myself for size I could have used it as a bed sheet!

So Beaton must be well over 6' - I'd guess 6' 3 or 4" - surprised Lewis is so tall, he seems to stand quite hunched over so maybe looks shorter as he is stooped?

I do believe that height helps to some extent - even if it means they can lean in a couple of extra inches, but certainly throwing down at a target should, in theory, be easier than lobbing up at it - but as pointed out, there are always exceptions and Taylor is proof that even if physically there is an advantage with being 6'+ in reality it should not matter at all.

if you can find pics of players posing for photos next to a regulation height board you could probably get a rough estimate ... just a thought

Yeah looks about level or just slightly above the bull with his shoes on so I reckon he is 5ft 8"

Nah I reckon 5ft 6/7 is about right. His eye is just under the T3 and I'm also just under the T3 but bare foot and I'm 5ft 7

Don't forget the oche is raised about an inch and a half.
The bull is 5'8"
His heels are probably about an inch so 5'6 - 7" sounds about right.

VvdV stands eyeball to the top rim of the board.
