first off I might add I think this is a great wee sight. and maybe this should be in the rant thread .
but I sometimes wonder why bother with the introduce yourself thread.
tonight for instance I noticed someone introduce themselves the thread was viewed 159 times ... with 6 replys (that's bad imo )..
why not just say hello /welcome it really don't take much effort ...
cmon folks lets make the sight a bit more welcoming who knows that person might just hang around a wee bit longer ...
rant over back to the drink ....

I'm guilty of this because I forget about that sub-section.
At the same time I remember when I first posted an intro and the thread ended up almost 3 pages long. What I think the difference was because I wrote a few paragraphs about how I got started in darts, what leagues I play now, what I think my skill level is, types of darts I use/pros I like, and few other random stuff about me. Lot of people responded to specific comments I made or asked follow up questions. Even if you JUST got into darts, you can still give a slight bio.
When you come on a new forum and just post "Hi, I'm John from USA"....you can't really expect to get 50 replies.
Guess what I'm saying is that both sides (newcomers and existing members) can be partly to blame in some instances.

I see where you are standing and you have a point. Are we being so nice in our postings in a way it sometimes neglect to include "substance". or contents that is worth reading and reacting to. Like eating a piece of chicken drumstick that taste like wood.
In some cases I feel bored. I am probably one of those who just viewed the thread and left, and hopped to another thread hoping that it is more interesting or controversial to merit a reaction.
Okay some guy shows off his darts. Posts a picture. That's all? No specs, no description of how it feels throwing them? Are we appreciating the looks and not it's worth as a dart that is supposed to be thrown on the board? Now who has ever mentioned something about center of gravity, etc. like what Regulatori does?
Thus someone makes a follow up response.
"Nice darts". Then another one.
"Those are nice arrows, mate!".
OMG , can you say anything more than that.
3,500 posts and all you can say is "Nice darts!".
Please elaborate.
Okay, I give up. Before I fall asleep, as should move towards a thread like those outing debates between Cyanide and Ico.
Funny but it has lots of substance. Something that will make your blood in your brain circulate.
This is a rant thread btw. Write your own issues. At least I done my part in making your mind function. And making the time you spent reading my notes worth spending to.
If I confused you, I made my point.
Welcome to reality!

personally i think this site does a good job of welcoming new members. i was on staff as a growing consultant at gardening forum for a few years and we had a "hospitality team" in place specifically designed for welcoming in and helping new members with any forum related questions, but we also had an unwritten rule that "all" team members regardless of title were to at least say hello to all new members.

I think most seasoned Nutzers make a reasonable effort to welcome newbies after all we need them. However as mentioned a little bio and maybe a question is easier to respond to and adds more interest on both sides. It would be great though if some of our new fellow Nutz dropped in on a couple of threads too.
The more we all get to know one another the richer the experience....I'm always bragging to mates at my club about just how Global this forum is. Its also nice to be able ' to be so informed' about the Darting World, whether it be about the players, tournaments and the products etc.
I tell them about the huge knowledge base we have, the extra discounts sponsors offer members and the fun and enjoyment I get from being in contact with the real characters in our forum.
Cheers

My father Merlin, once told me that "You should end up pointing to what you were aiming at when you've released the Dart."

I agree that people should put a little about themselves to get more response.
I also have to say that even if you respond and welcome a member then leave and return to see what other members have said, the post count still goes up by 1 even though you haven't posted again, so maybe not many people had seen the said post but a few returned to see what had been posted. I return to posts when they show up in my unread but don't always post if I already welcomed a member unless I need to reply to something. Rant over lol

I agree Dave, I look back many times especially if I ask a question. I try to ask a question as to get that new member posting, even if it just what darts they are throwing or whatever. I have to agree though the more welcoming the better.
I must say I think everyone does a good job welcoming and it doesn't go unnoticed. For example look at post #27.

Edgar WTF!? That was hard reading for just getting up lol
Ok my opinion is that newbies can either give a simple hi or a long bio. It's entirely up to them. The fact that they have given a long bio shouldn't mean anything when it comes to current members saying hi. Yes it may mean there is questions and topics to be discussed in that thread but it doesn't change the simple reply of hello.
This forum has actually become really good with welcomes so I wouldn't worry about it but it would be nice to see more (especially from our regulars) to say hello.

You cant assume that a thread view count equates to the number of people that have seen the thread, if just 10 people view the thread 5 times then that's 50 views already and add to that the views by bots and it can add up quickly. But I think its only polite to reply to some one who is saying "Hello" so just saying "Hello" back is fine but it would also be nice to get more in depth too.
As Admins and mods though we have lots of threads to check through and also other things to do in running the forum so we don't always have time to fully expand with each post and sometime a few words is all we have time to post but it at least shows we are there and have taken note and responded Guests cannot see images in the messages. I was warmly welcomed a couple months ago.
Though I was a little disappointed that no one asked me out on a date. I would've passed, but still, it woulda been nice. At least ask for nudes, ya know? Show the new guy some love?
I suppose I've been here long enough that I could start asking the new guys for nudes myself if you think that'd make this site more welcoming.
