Winmau Paul Nicholson 24g darts review

video link = https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5nOXHTfHqg

This is a review of the Black Onyx version. I got them from Puredarts here: Paul Nicholson 24g

The darts cost £27.99 and are available in a natural tungsten version too. There is a few weights in the range: 20,22,24, and 26 grams.

They are 90% tungsten with a black coating which Winmau have termed Onyx grip. The darts are supplied with a plastic case, point protector, medium nylon stems with spring clips and "The Asset" Rhino signature flights.

The darts have a nice sporty look about them with the green and white rings, the black looks very nice and contrasts well with the colours. The barrels have a mostly ring style grip with varying widths of ring and grooves. At its grippiest I would say its a high medium.

BALANCE:

With nothing attached the balance was closer to the front than expected:

With the supplied set up it moved just front of centre:

Balance with my own medium, short and extra short stems and nylon flights:

I was holding the darts mostly on the smooth section at the front:

The darts landed quite flat in the board:

CONCLUSION:

I like the look of these darts a lot, I think the colour scheme with the black is great but I was not really expecting them to work so well with my front grip. As the grip seems to be mostly at the rear I was expecting that is how Nicholson likes it so they probably wont fly so well with my front grip, but quite simply they do and they do so very nicely.

The darts did fly quite flattish but I have kind of change my throw just a little since trying the Bulls Fighter soft tips and it seemed to work well with these darts. Where I gripped is mostly smooth save for the rings at the front and a little further up but I had no issues with the grip there as the Onyx coating was providing a nice level of grip which was great for me.

I tried throwing from the centre and the rear too and they still flew quite well even though its not my natural grip.

The darts felt a little better balanced around the centre though but it was still fine at the front, gripping at the rear was a little weird for me but I think it will likely suit most types of grips.

Its a nice dart really but I don't see the coating lasting too well, and I already had a few chips from just a few throws but as per usual you can expect that really.

SUMMARY RATINGS:

Looks: 8.5 (Nice sporty look)
Grip: 7.5 (on a 1 to 10 Scale, 10 been severe grip)
Weight match: 7.5 (quite close)
Quality: 8 (very nice quality)
Value: 8 (fine)
Suitability for me: 7.5 (fly quite well overall)

Best Feature: The Onyx coating is nice Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

Nice review!
They look nice darts.
I am tempted with the 20g version.
Would like to see how the storm points point look in them.

I have these in 24g and love them. I'm a front gripper so hold on the smooth section but the fly lovely.
They do mark up a bit though so like my missus lose their beauty quite quickly once you commit to them

Sweet review as always. Was wondering how similar in balance to my twomlow!
Now I am satisfied. the balance is too front for me as I don't like holding on smooth part.

Great review Darren. I have a set of the original Unicorn Global Nicholson's (with the red rings) but may have to get myself a set of these too. As others have said, these will look mint with black storm points. As for Nicho the player, I reckon he's a character and tournaments are always more interesting when he's still in them. Hope he has a good run in the Worlds.

Great review,but ......

I could not and would not throw a dart endorsed by The "Asset "Paul Nicholson.( His nickname is two letters too long (et) . IMO.)

Great review. I'm not sure I'm sold on these onyx coatings, bit too colourful for me.
Still, it's better than just sticking your name on james wades darts.
Is there more than a +-0.1g weight diff tho??

Thanks guys, yeah I think they look great when new but they will wear but I don't mind that so much as its to be expected. Yeah 1.1 but I doubt I would bother to complain, I cant feel a tenth of a gram difference and on another set of scales it may end up 0.09?
