Jack Hood
After the thread about the Jack Hood darts Only available to view for active members with 5 or more posts click register to join Smile , I queried if there was any pics available about him. With the kind Permission of Patrick Chaplin I am allowed to show a couple of pages from his book Darts in England 1900-39 – A social history which is being published in November by Manchester University Press at £15.99 and I cant wait to get a copy, if you like to know about the history of darts then I am sure it will be a very interesting and fascinating read.

You should also check out Patricks site: http://www.patrickchaplin.com and sign up for his Newsletter which is fantastic and very informative.

Here is the pics, enjoy!:

hi, i'm new to this forum & picked it up by accident whilst doing my family tree. Jack Hood was a relative of mine & i have a nice photo if you'd like me to post it?

Getagrip

Hi Chris thats awesome, yes please do post it!

And welcome to the forum!

ChrisL

I'll give it a go (I'm not very good at this stuff...)

OK, just tried that & it's crashed. Can I email it to you & you can post?
Jack Hood was my Nan's uncle. My dad remembers him well & says he was a great darts player. My dad played darts with him regularly. When I get time, I'll post a bit more.. I'll get some stories off my dad. Let me know about emailing the photo. Cheers

Hi Christine,

Welcome to Darts Nuts.

Any photos or stories (possibly memorabilia?) you have would be fantastic to see.

Getagrip

He looks like a sturdily built guy too.

Suart180

Fantastic photo.

Robbie the Robot

That is an incredible piece of history of our great game.

mc1958

Great photo - even though I was born not too far from Bow in Leyton, I've never ever played on a London Fives board. I believe there is still a league in the area that plays on the board.

Getagrip

I'm fascinated by the big handles on the top of the boards too!

mc1958

They were to hang it on the wall at a rough guess. We used to have an old cork board hanging up in the back garden for when we played - you didn't get all this rotating the boards or anything as there wasn't any sisal or whatever to get worn out. All we used to do with it was plonk it in a (big) bowl of water when it wasn't in use as that livened it back up.

Getagrip

yeah that would have been the Elm boards, never seen one myself.

Shafted

Great thread, and Fantastic pic , It would be great to hear of any tales you have of him Christine, I have a set of Jack Hood darts identical to the set getagrip used to have in the News of the World Champion metal case

jake8380

That is awesome and nice that a member is a relative of Jack Hood!
