BetVictor World Cup of Darts moves to Graz

The 2020 BetVictor World Cup of Darts is now set to be held from November 6-8 in Graz as Austria prepares to host the event for the first time.

The 32-nation World Cup of Darts had been originally planned to take place in Hamburg in June, but was amongst the tournaments postponed recently due to the global coronavirus pandemic.

The event is now set to be held across three days, each featuring two sessions of action, in November at the Premstättner Halle in Graz/Premstätten.
This tournament will replace the planned new dates for the 2020 Austrian Darts Open European Tour event.

However, tickets purchased for the original dates of the Austrian Darts Open will remain valid for the equivalent session of the new dates. Further details can be obtained from PDC Europe.

The 2019 BetVictor World Cup of Darts was won by Scotland's Peter Wright and Gary Anderson, as they claimed the title for the first time by defeating Ireland's William O'Connor and Steve Lennon in the final.

England and the Netherlands have won the World Cup four times apiece since the tournament - which is unique on the PDC circuit for the combination of Doubles and Singles ties - was introduced a decade ago.

Same as keeping the WSOD Finals on the calendar for this year, got to say this is another stupid decision by the PDC in my opinion given this is also non-ranking - they should have kept this weekend free for a ranking event as well.

Wonder what they will say to the players who lose their cards this year due to these non-ranking exbo events taking place instead of proper ranking events?

Maybe they'll extend the card length by a year - I agree that it's not fair to those who are in danger of losing their card to have it end by a pandemic.

And yes, drop the WSOD finals as it's worthless.

If they extend the tour cards by a year then that would also upset lots of non-card holders as well (including Challenge and Development Tour players) as the PDC would also need to cancel Q School in January due to there being no extra cards available.

I'm guessing they will hold a lot of the remaining Pro Tour leisure centre events during midweek - but given that a lot of the "professionals" lower down the OOM would also have normal day jobs then that really isn't the answer either as those players would run out of holiday entitlement fairly quickly so wouldn't be able to attend several of those as well unless they took unpaid leave.

I don't know the answer to this issue, but holding any non-ranking events during the remainder of this year certainly isn't it. Not really sure how viable it would be, but one solution is possibly increase the pool from 128 up to 160 card holders from January.

Could be the best solution, thinking about it.

That is a possibility, but their is a cost implication to that. While it may be minor than 20-30 players don't need to pay to get their card back, thing will be tighter going forward as even the PDC will have suffered financially this year.
