2019 BDO World Championship
Your guess is as good as mine - I think it will go ahead and i think it will be at Lakeside, but I don't think it will be on tv (although really hope I'm wrong on that). I doubt we will hear anything for another couple of days yet though as Des and Paula are out in Turkey having a great time at the Turkish Open - the most eagerly awaited tournament of the year or something!!!

In all honesty I liked how Des started as the new BDO chairman, but this is such a huge mess. Not sure if it's his fault, or still because of the incompetence of the former board, but it's downright embarassing. Got to feel for the players even if it was their choice to remain in the BDO, think most of them will be going to Q-School next year, at least I hope so.

From what I can gather on facebook this mess is down to the old board and Des's hands are tied - I haven't a clue what they are doing, but some company called Sportotal are the ones that are supposed to be sorting it out.

i think the bdo has a short time left as a tv company.

Sportotal are the guys who (as "BDO Events") were stupid enough to create the World Trophy for the BDO and lost six figure money on running the first two editions of the tournament. Afterwards they seemingly strong-armed/guilt-tripped Sue Williams into appointing them as the BDO's sole representatives for handling tournament rights negotiations, so that they could make back some of their lost money through commissions on things like the C4 contract for Lakeside.

According to the Lakeside, the darts is still going to be held there. they're just waiting for the BDO to release the ticket. I'll not be best pleased if it doesn't. I booked accommodation in advance. Surely they'll release the tickets shortly

Looks like Lakeside have changed the website to 2019 now and it says the tickets are scheduled to go on sale shortly:

Mind you, click on the "home" button and it says it will be shown on Channel 4 and BT Sports

Venue still not yet cofirmed but guessing it will still be Lakeside, but the BDO have now signed a 3 year deal with Eurosport/Quest to show this, the Masters and World Trophy.

Good news all around today be it a bit late in the proceedings.  That said, better late than never. Smile

WESLEY NEWTON will take part in the 2019 Lakeside World Professional Darts Championships due to the confirmation that there will be no Asian qualifier this year.

The Asian qualifying tournament, which normally forms part of the Malaysian Open, did not feature in this year’s event, and subsequently the BDO have been informed there will be no representation from the Asian region in the 2019 Lakeside World Professional Darts Championships.

Newton’s path to qualification has been far from straight-forward; escalated into the standby position after Andy Hamilton secured one of the four international play off places, Newton had a nerve-wracking wait throughout the Winmau World Masters before Adam Smith-Neale denied him a spot.

The omission of the Asian qualifier this year means Newton, as the next listed player on the BDO Invitation table, will take his place in the 2019 Lakeside World Professional Darts Championships line-up.

Just means Newton can't win in the BDO either

Well done by Hamilton and Newton, qualifying for the world championship while playing only half the season. One does wonder why many BDO regulars require the full 12 months to amass the same points totals, or don't make it at all.

Well pleased for Wesley.
