Just a quick review and demo video of these L-Syle Gomu Shaft/Stem Tighteners.   The name pretty much says it all really.  These dinky little things are made of a soft rubber like material and retail for around £2.40 for a 2 set pack, so six Gomus in total.

CONTENTS AND PACKAGING:

They come in a little cellophane pack and the pack has some instruction pics of how to use them, its very simple of course.

The little Gomus are fitted into a larger rubber frame and the two sets are slotted in to each other.  There is a fair bit of wastage really when you consider just how little is used on the stems thread but I guess having the surrounding frame makes it that bit easier to apply.

To fit the Gomu you just screw the thread of your stem into it or you can just push it in and when its far enough in you just break it from its holder and then screw it into your barrel.

It certainly works well though, I think its a very tight fit and probably a lot neater than using rubber O-Rings as it helps the barrel get flush to the stem base whereas sometimes with rubber O-Rings they leave a gap or the ring may protrude out slightly.

As you can see in the pics below of the before and after though I dont think they will hold up to repeated screwing and unscrewing of the stem, I think may be two or three times as it begines to cut the fine rubber.

So they may not last as long as a rubber O-Ring but if you want a more perfect fit and your unlikely to be unscrewing the stem often then they work very well for what they are designed to do.  I think they work best with alloy stems but if you want to use them on nylon stems too I think its just as good.

I guess the only issue is the price, compared to a set of O-Rings these are more expensive for sure but once they are fitted I think they will keep the stem tight for a long time provided you dont unscrew it more than a few times, so if you want a perfect tight fit for your alloy or even nylon stems give em a try Smile

Not watched your video but I remember the Paul Lim one when these first came out lol. Good idea though if you are going to keep the same stems on for a while

Thanks for the review of them Darren.

In case anyone asks, I personally had the experience, that they didn't fit on conversion points, although they are also 2ba. No idea why, but tried them with One80 Reflex conversion points and they would not go on far enough.

How much is plumber's tape?

And where would a non-tradesman get some from?

Wonder why, is the thread length shorter on the conversion points than a stem?
