Winmau Sniper, 23 gram – a mid-to-rear gripper’s review
(01-07-2017, 01:08 AM)Alex Wrote: Nice work WhiskyPops, great review. They're a shorter dart than I expected, and I see what you mean now about where you grip. I fancied a tapered dart, the grouping improvement really attracted me but I struggle to grip them. I really need to try more to see how I get on.

Good work anyhow! I'd +1 you if I could from tapatalk

Thanks Alex!

Personally I tend to struggle with grip on most slim straight darts with low grip. More grip results in better throwing with straight darts. Purely due to consistent gripping I gained a lot with these kind of specialist shaped darts.

Grouping for me is quite easy with the right straight dart. The fat part of such a tapered barrel still causes a lot of bounce offs into the 1 or 5 or single 20, even if it's a well thrown dart.

Anyway, I feel like my grip at the front of the scallop is a bit unconventional maybe, as you'd initially want to place perhaps your fingers into the full scallop. Just play around a bit with that, maybe you would even like a full rear grip on the micro ringed part? Or pulling the dart from around the area where the barrel only balance point is located?

Nice pictures and nice review. Made me order a set, I got the 22g version and with smooth storm points. Looks like it should fit my grip well. Time will tell. Thanks!

Thank you John! Theyl 22 g have a ring grip on the front part, which is not so grippy, that's why I sold those off.

Yea, i don't normally like buying darts without trying them first but I've always wanted a scalloped dart like this and I don't need too much grip in the front if the scallop works for me. 22g is my preferred weight and I liked the consistent ring grip throughout.

Are you using long stems there WP? I would think they were a wee bit too long for a near 50mm barrel, and I would be scared of poking my eye out.

This is my current setup using shorts with standard flights

Medium stems, nothing special Jefferz. I throw from besides the face, so no problems like Gando Big Grin I sometimes wear glasses but also sometimes lenses, so throwing close to my face is not comfy.

I don't think I've seen anyone throwing from the side of their face before.

I got curious and had a look on YouTube. I don't think any of them do throw from the side, but I can see why it looks like that in the case of Barney because he pulls it down to a place way below his eye, and Cullen doesn't pull it far back at all.

Here you can see clearly(for example, around 1:01) that King pulls it up to his eye

Cullen (seen here at 23:01) is aiming as there is a line of sight between his eye and the board
