I understand it's not about the best and more of a showcase for the PDC.  IMO however (which I'm democratically allowed to be wrong Big Grin ) it should be about the best players 1-4 as normal then the rest should come from who's the best on form and or showing phenomenal play coming up the ranks.  Problem with the PL is if you throw a young or up and coming player in too soon you get the Smith's/Webby's etc. that can't handle it due to lack of experience and is detrimental to the future development of them players.
So I guess there's no right or wrong, just that Taylor's had his day in the sun and when he retires from competition in the PDC he should be that, retired.
I'm not bashing Taylor in anyway either as I respect his play and what he's brought to the professional side of darts.  That said, he's best off to go gracefully and not hang on like some punched drunk boxer is all.
Yea I understand. They should not be afraid to move on from Taylor. People will get used to it. We have so many quality players nowadays. The grand slam shows partially the new generation that is knocking on the door already, so the sport can move to a new level, perhaps with Phil in a less active but more supportive role.

i don't see a problem. There are six wildcards, and if he is competive enough let him play. I'm sure he will not play if he self thinks he is not. So nothing is lost.

I'm not sure ticket sales are a driving factor, they've sold out all the decent seats for the PL for 2017 already and the list of players hasn't even been announced yet.
180 Target for 2018 - (Just one, one small measly 180, please..... ) Target Met 4!

The first four of the OoM are in, and Taylor is (almost for sure) one of them. So you know who is in for sure.  Taylor, Lewis, Gary and MvG. Perhaps Phil falls down to 5 but that is enough to receive a wildcard for sure.

If you mean the Premier League it is not a ranking tournament.

Taylor is a BIG shareholder in PDC (as he has stated numerous times) and regardless of what anyone thinks HAS a major influence.

The PDC will want to retain Taylor at all costs so i can see him basically for a year or 2 conceivably getting wild carded into most events.

I believe to play in PDPA qualifiers Big Grin for WC you just need to be a member .So even without ranking Taylor could play the qualifiers

Yes, but imagine they mess up in 2017, it will translate in less profit in 2018. If they sell out next year, but slower than this year, they will already not be satisfied and as organization will want to make necessary changes.

I see it at my work as well; one year without growth (but still profit) and the management starts going nuts

Yeah, but at the moment there are not many tournaments where you can get a Wildcard for. But I don't worry about Taylor just getting in cause of his name and status etc. When he can't compete anymore he won't play. He just loves winning too much and hates loosing.

Anyways, back to tonight's session. Big Grin

SINGHA Beer Grand Slam of Darts
Monday November 14 (7pm)

Groups A-D-E-H Final Games
Adrian Lewis v Benito van de Pas (H)
Gary Anderson v Alan Norris (E)
Phil Taylor v Darren Webster (D)
Michael van Gerwen v Max Hopp (A)
Brendan Dolan v Martin Adams (A)
Chris Dobey v Scott Mitchell (H)
Nathan Derry v Glen Durrant (E)
Ian White v Daryl Fitton (D)

Some are playing for a perfect record in the group stage as others are trying to save face for the most part tonight.

The Dobey/Mitchell match is all or nothing as is Fitton/White.  Dolan lands a spot in round two with a win as well, unless Hopp pulls out an upset on Mr. Smiles MvG. Tongue

Durrant should move on as I don't see him getting beat by Derry, although funnier/crazier things have happened. Wink

Enjoy the action Nutz. Smile

If Adams wins 5:4 against Doland and Hopp loses 5:0 all three would have the same leg difference. Would be funny to see a three player nine dart shootout Big Grin

Indeed, I didn't want to get in to all the leg difference permutations myself. Big Grin
