Farewell to Mike aka mc1958 a Nutz legend! - Getagrip - 09-09-2023

As some of you may have noticed Mike (mc1958) has not been as active for a while. I am sad to let you know Mike has decided to step down as admin and away from darts in general.

I hope he wont mind me posting what he said as I think its probably best said in his own words, but a few weeks ago he said he would take a break:

"Sorry guys but I'm going to be taking some time out - no idea how long I'll be gone for, or even if I'll be back to be honest.

I always said I'd give it all up if I stopped enjoying the game, and I am now pretty much in that position.

My main enjoyment came from playing in the league and that all stopped when COVID came along. The leagues have now restarted but sadly without me - the last couple of years my back and shoulder issues have got worse and I also now suffer from arthritis and gout (amongst other things) so I can only throw for about 10 minutes at most without needing a reasonable rest period, hence why I rarely throw at home these days.

I don't really enjoy watching the tv events these days either - the games themselves are ok but I'm not keen on all the trappings that go with it nowadays such as the clownish walkons (eg Wright/Heta/Dimi), the gurning when someone hits a 60 (eg Price/MVG), the garbage commentators (eg Pyke/Studd/Nicholson) and worst of all the crowds with all their garbage especially when players are throwing for a double.

And the way prices have kept increasing I've also pretty much stopped the collecting side as well.

I've taken my board down at home but no idea if it will go back up in a few months or not, or I may even just start selling everything on ebay or wherever when I get round to it.

As I say I don't know when, or if, I will be back on the forum, but in the meantime I have disabled the pm's on my account so that people don't think I'm being rude ignoring them.

And in case I don't reappear down the line I just want to say I've had a great time being on the forum both as a normal member and also as a member of the mod team for the last 10+ years, and all the best to you all going forward
"

I said he should have some time off and then see how he feels and let us know. So recently he told us:

"Hi guys

Just on quick to say this will be my last post on here as still not feeling the love for the game, and kmy health hasn't improved either, in fact it's got worse - it loos like I now also have arthritis in one of my elbows as well Sad

I've looked on the forum without logging on a couple of times and also put the board back up and bought a couple of sets from Darts Clearance to see if that changed anything but am still feeling the same. I even tried watching the Seniors darts yesterday and that didn't help as I ended up turning that off after about 10 minutes as well.

Anyway, as said previously I've really enjoyed being part of the team helping keep the forum running but my time here is now at an end. All the best to you all going forward, and you never know, I may come back in a year or two if the health improves and I start feeling the love of the game again.

Mike
"

I can certainly sympathize with much of what Mike has said, I dont have the same love for the darts as I did years ago, I still enjoy trying new darts etc but probably not to the same extent as before. Mike will be a huge loss to the forum though. I sent him an email but not sure if he got it as my emails have been a bit weird of late. But Mike kept a lot of things active on the forum for such a long time and even before he became part of the mod team was a very active and valued member.

I think we all get to a point where things like health, injuries, life can affect things we love to do, but when that love is gone its probably the right thing to do and move on. Who knows it may come back and if it does for Mike he will certainly be welcome back for sure.

I think I first knew Mike in the old days of Darts Corners forum, think he joined around the same time as me and always known him to be very knowledgeable about the game and dont think I ever heard anyone say anything bad about him, he just loved to talk darts Guests cannot see images in the messages. I hope his health issues ease enough that he can get some enjoyment doing something new he loves and maybe he can once again get a spark for darts.

I am sure we all wish him the best of luck going forward what ever he does.

Thank you Mike, you were one of the best Darts Nutz around! Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register at the forum by clicking here to see images.

Oh, that's sad to hear. But it's also understandable.

Mike will leave a big gap. Who is supposed to identify unknown darts in seconds and conjure the right set out of the drawer?

Mike, I wish you all the best.

Cheers.

Mike has been great keeping us all up to date on all the tournaments draws, winners and more year after year.

I wish him all the best in moving on…hopefully finding his love for the game again and good health at some point in the future.

Thanks for everything Mike, you will be missed and hope we see you again sometime.

It’s a sad sad day with this happening. Mike has been a key to me here and the loss is felt big time. Wish him well no matter what path he takes, but can’t help hoping it leads back here some time, and sooner rather than later.

Never a good thing to lose a valued member and sorry to hear about mc1958's health issues that severely limit his participation in a game he obviously loved to play.

Good luck going forward and hope to see him around from time to time even if just checking in with an update on how things are going.

Over the years Mike AKA mc1958 swapped a few PM s with me (generally, when I asked him questions, or advice, in one form or other + which he always replied to) he even pointed me towards a few dart sets, I got from ebay (So, thanks for that Mike).

Hope life treats you well, what ever path you walk, in the future.

We all need a little (or a large) break from our hobbies from time to time.

Hopefully the time away will do some good, and he'll decide to come back one day.

Mike you always welcomed my useless comments and have been generous with your feedback. You will be greatly missed just knowing you were around willing to help. Best wishes to you and your health.

RE: Farewell to Mike aka mc1958 a Nutz legend! - Ryk - 09-10-2023

Hope the health issues calm down and things improve.
It always impressed me the player dart flight collection and I could feel the disapointment when he had to give it up as they were churning out so many player flights.
Best Wishes

Sad to hear this but with everything in life your health and well being comes first above everything else…

..and try and look on the positive side in that the number of years that Mike has taken joy and pleasure out of the game and the forum and put a smile on his face and the friends he has also made

Hopefully as one door closes another May open……I wish him happiness going forward and also that his health improves and he feels better

And finally a big thank you for everything you have done for the forum and the number of people you have touched and helped over the years

Go well

Like everyone else on this forum I will miss Mike's posts info, comments and even some of his music posts (have listened to several)and many thanks for that.
Hopefully going forward Mike I hope things improve and you get back some love for this wonderful game we play as mere mortals.
Take care (kev).
